The American IV Association’s Mission: A Unified Voice for the IV Industry

The IV hydration industry is experiencing rapid growth, with wellness centers and consumers increasingly recognizing its potential for health and recovery. But as demand grows, so does the need for rigorous standards and reliable information. The American IV Association (AIVA) is stepping up to meet these needs, establishing protocols and support systems to ensure quality and accountability across the industry.

In a recent discussion, Sam Tejada CEO of Liquivida®, and, David Light, COO of AIVA shared how AIVA is addressing these challenges. From launching certification programs for practitioners to promoting public awareness of IV therapy benefits and safety, AIVA is setting a new standard. Their initiatives represent a major shift toward a safer, more professional approach to wellness, supporting practitioners and consumers alike.

AIVA’s Mission: Becoming the Voice of the Industry

In 2024, AIVA focused heavily on becoming a recognized voice within the IV hydration industry. This mission underscored their primary goal: to advocate for and regulate IV therapy across diverse medical and wellness platforms. AIVA’s commitment to creating a unified voice has led to robust networking and education initiatives, ensuring both association members and the public gain a deeper understanding of IV therapy’s role in health and wellness.

One notable initiative was AIVA’s Media Day event in May, which drew over a thousand viewers and included participants from across the globe. This platform connected industry leaders, medical professionals, and regulators, allowing for comprehensive discussions on IV hydration’s benefits, safety standards, and future challenges. Due to the success and feedback from this event, AIVA decided to expand its reach with a second Media Day in October, with a specific focus on regulatory issues within the IV therapy landscape.

Addressing Regulatory Challenges and Promoting Safety

The October Media Day event reflected AIVA’s proactive stance on safety and regulation. David Light highlighted how various U.S. states have started to establish guidelines for IV therapy, influencing the association’s priorities for industry standards. AIVA addressed these regulatory trends by assembling an advisory board and forming committees focused on specific aspects of IV therapy, such as clinical practices, marketing, and standardization.

One of AIVA’s goals is to develop a trusted certification process for IV facilities, ensuring consumers feel confident when choosing IV therapy locations. This initiative supports industry transparency, distinguishing certified AIVA facilities that adhere to high standards. In addition, educational materials and courses are being designed for 2025, aimed at helping practitioners understand best practices, patient treatment protocols, and safety measures essential for IV nutrition therapy.

Supporting Industry Growth through Education and Networking

AIVA places great emphasis on enhancing industry knowledge and practice. Their upcoming curriculum will cover topics such as patient protocols, facility management, and certification standards. The organization has recognized a demand for professional development in areas like marketing, business management, and scientific research related to IV therapy.

Events like the VIBE conference, which hosted over 500 industry professionals, reflect AIVA’s dedication to providing educational and networking opportunities. This conference facilitated discussions on nutrition, patient care, and business operations, responding to member feedback and industry needs. Moving forward, AIVA aims to offer more classes and resources that strengthen the professional and ethical standards within IV therapy.

Building a Sustainable and Unified Industry

AIVA’s membership model underscores its dedication to long-term industry support. Membership dues not only contribute to the organization’s operational costs but also fund public awareness efforts, including social media and advertising initiatives. By promoting the industry’s positive impact on health and wellness, AIVA strives to be a leading resource and advocate for IV therapy.

Tejada stressed that AIVA’s goal isn’t profit but instead, an inclusive platform where industry leaders and practitioners can share expertise and resources. Both he and Light emphasized that the founding members volunteer their time and expertise, demonstrating their commitment to advancing the IV hydration sector and ensuring a reputable and regulated industry for consumers.
